State Archives' Employment Application (Word document)

The Maryland State Archives Personnel Office promotes the recruitment, development and retention of highly motivated, well qualified individuals to provide efficient, effective, and courteous service to the citizens of Maryland. The State Archives is an agency of Maryland State Government. The Maryland State Archives and the State of Maryland are Equal Employment Opportunity Employers and are committed to the letter and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Maryland State Archives and the State of Maryland are committed to fair employment practices in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, placement and promotion without regard to age, ancestry, color, creed, marital status, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religious affiliation, sex or sexual orientation.

There are two broad categories of State employees: permanent and contractual. Permanent State employees are hired from eligibility lists created by the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits or in some cases, by a State agency. Eligibile lists for most State positions, such as clerical, fiscal, administrative, maintenance, information technology and similar positions are created by the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits.  The State Archives creates eligible lists for archivists and archival assistants, two positions unique to this agency.  Permanent employees receive a salary, health benefits, pension benefits, annual leave, personal leave and paid holidays.

Contractual State employees are hired directly by a State agency and do not have to be on an eligibles list. They must meet the same minimum qualifications for the position. They are hired for specific positions for a specific project or time period. Contractual employees receive an hourly wage, unemployment insurance and FICA/Medicare subsidy, but no other State paid benefits.

Please visit the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits web site at www.dbm.state.md.us for information on State jobs at other State agencies.
